Our flight from Manchester to Venice Marco Polo was good, as was our journey by Alilaguna ferry to San Marco.  Arriving at the Hotel Metropole we were shown into a most amazing room.  A very special treat as we were in Venice to celebrate Ann’s 70th birthday and I was hoping to do some night photography and to capture images taken in central Venice.  I’ve called these journal entries `stories’ because these are the images that will evoke memories for me when I revisit this journal.

Tasteful gold decorations for the high end shopping arcades and a rather ugly silver Christmas tree in-front of San Marco.

I like the way that people add to the `sense of place’ in these images.  The square was usually busy but never felt overcrowded.

What would Venice be without it’s Gondoliers and its small stalls.  On this visit it was scarves, hats and gloves that seemed to be the dominant items displayed.  Venice was cold!
