During August on a trip to York I stumbled upon this exhibition in York St Marys. The Exhibition is called ‘The Dark Self’ and is by Susan Aldworth who in this installation explores the experience of sleep and the unconscious.

In this exhibition she used the pillow as a metaphor for sleep in ‘One Thousand and One Nights’ which consists of hundreds of pillowcases embroidered by schoolchildren, craft groups and many members of the public. Furthermore, in a moving image work called ‘Dormez-Vous?’ she allows visitors to experience dreamlike states alongside a soundtrack¬†by Barney Quinton is based on recordings of his sleeping brain.

Take a look through some photos I took of this installation along with some photos of York St Marys.
